“... the audience was treated to Tan’s pure, clear-as-a-bell voice that did not require the assistant of any enchanced acoustics...” SUNDAY STAR
Synopsis
Li Xiang Lan was a famous leading songstress during the shi dai qu (popular Mandarin songs) era. Born in 1920, her career as a singer and movie star in Shanghai came to an abrupt end when she was charged with political treason in 1945. She was eventually repatriated back to Japan, following the discovery that she was a Japanese. She continued to pursue her career in Japan and later went over to Hollywood and Hong Kong to make movies and musicals.
Li Xiang Lan’s signature songs - including “Fragrance of the night”,“Three Years” and “Candy Song” – will forever remain treasured gems of the shi dai qu era. In this concert, the songs will be sung in Mandarin while narration is in English.
