Seng Chew is the resident producer of Dama Orchestra's musical productions. A fervent follower of both Chinese and western operas, he won the National Pipa Championship in 1978 before proceeding to the UK to read classical guitar at the London College of Music. He played the pipa (Chinese lute) and guitar in the West End production of M Butterfly at Shaftsbury Theatre and Haymarket Theatre. Seng Chew founded the London Chinese Ensemble - performing violin-cello-dizi-pipa-vocal works – and lectured Chinese Music for the Inner London Educational Authority. He has given extensive performances throughout Britain, including the Sun Yat Sun's Centenarian Commemoration Concert at the Royal Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Upon his return to Malaysia, he founded Dama Orchestra and toured Australia and Thailand with the Penang Symphony Orchestra, performing several pipa concertos, including Little Sisters Of The Grassland. He was also invited to perform the pipa with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in the Yellow River Piano Concerto concert. He has also conducted music appreciation talks on Western classical music in association with the national Chinese news media.
