Spring Kisses Lover’s Tears is a tribute to that galaxy of singing stars from the fecund, four decades (1930s–1960s) that emerged from the Great Depression.

Mandarin popular songs (or shi dai qu) flourished in the 1930s, succoured by the growth of the fledgling radio broadcasting and cinema industry in eastern China. Centered there, Upstream By the Sea (Shanghai), at the start; then trickling towards–before settling in–Fragrant Bay (Hong Kong) towards the end of that period: the memorable films and music began to flow and dominate Cantonese movies and songs.
