Soprano
Soo Suan was awarded the National Grand Champion of Classical Singing in Malaysia in 1998, after having won the competition for three consecutive years. She has sung the solo soprano part in Haydn's Oratorio – Seasons, and the mezzo-soprano part in Beethoven Symphony No. 9, with the Penang State Orchestra and Choir. Her 2000-2001 debut solo concerts The Songs In Me with Dama enjoyed sold out performances throughout the country. Since then, she has performed in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Canada and has also done a charity concert tour – covering twelve states – in the United States.
Soo Suan's stage performances included Liu Yun: Portrait Of A Songstress, In The Imperial Garden, Fragrance Of The Night, Spring Kisses Lover's Tears, A Musical Sojourn, Unforgettable, Love Without End, Memories, Le Cabaret Shanghai and September Tale: Teresa Teng, Her Life, Her Songs. A recipient of the 2004 and 2005 Malaysian Boh Cameronian Arts Award for Best Solo Performance (Voice), she has several recordings to her credit – Memories DVD, Fragrance of The Night CD, and September Tale CD and a charity album recorded in Taiwan. Her rendition of Eternally in her debut album Fragrance Of The Night was featured in renowned film director Tsai Ming-Liang's film, I Don't Want To Sleep Alone, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival 2006. Soo Suan studied with well-known Malaysian soprano Madam Tung and later with soprano Rosemary Barnes in Auckland, New Zealand, and attended master classes abroad.
